Candyce’s take on… weddings

As we all know, peak wedding season is approaching quickly and as someone who has been to several weddings and been in a few as well, I have my own opinions on the wedding traditions. I thought I might share a few of my favorites and a few things that I absolutely hate.

Now, I feel like I should preface with this: I do not care at all what you do at your own personal wedding. I strongly feel that every couple’s wedding should be personal to them. A wedding is not for anyone else except the bride and groom. This is solely my opinion.

First, I want to say one of my absolute favorite things is when the bridesmaids all have different dresses, even people if they are all different colors. I absolutely love it when there is an obvious color scheme and each bridesmaid has a completely different color dress and different style dress. I don’t like when every bridesmaid wears the exact same dress, because not every dress compliments every single person.

One tradition that might be controversial is that I don’t like when the couple says their vows at the altar. I feel like that is something super personal to the couple and should be said in private. It is super cute when the couples do their vows during the first look. Even if they don’t do a first look, I like when the couple joins hands on either side of a door and prays and shares their vows then. I am just not a fan of a couple sharing their super personal vows in front of all of the wedding guests.

Another trend that I love is when brides wear a different outfit for their reception. I understand a lot of brides pay a lot of money for their wedding dress and want to wear it the whole time; however, I just love when they come out in a super cute sweat suit or jumpsuit ready to dance the night away.

I’m not a fan of super long ceremonies.

I love when guests are asked not to have their phones out during the ceremony.

I’m not a fan of the couple asking everyone to wear the same color to the wedding.

I love when the couple has their own personal cake and then cupcakes for all of the guests.

As someone who has never had her own wedding and is not even close to having her own wedding, I know it seems like I have a lot of opinions on them. You may agree with me and you may not and, guess what, that’s just fine!
