Goosebumps 2

Goosebumps 2

Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween follows the story of Sonny, his sister Sarah and his best friend Sam as they accidentally reawaken Slappy, an evil ventriloquist dummy.

If you haven’t seen the first Goosebumps, you won’t need to. They used a few references from the first Goosebumps and added a few twists to try and make it seem different.

But, they basically copied the plot from the first: boy summons Slappy by accident, Slappy summons monsters to destroy the town, boy returns Slappy and the evil monsters to the book they came from, and apparently, they live happily ever after.

The lack of character development was also upsetting. Sarah went from a sister who simply wanted to leave her family for a faraway college to the most caring sister in the world within the span of a few minutes. Sonny and Sam simply remained the same people they were at the beginning of the movie. The bully, Tyler, went from hating them to cherishing them simply because Sarah yelled at him. It didn’t make sense to me.

The few comedic moments in the movie is one of the redeeming factors in this movie. It made me laugh, so I will give it some grace. Due to a copied plot line and a lack of character development, I give this movie two out of five stars.
